Like I mentioned, I read book one when it was first released. I am always up for a good YA fantasy, and while this one probably isn't defined as YA, I think this will appeal to that audience. The romance is subtle, the darkness obvious, the fight for light shining through. I got along with the characters, learning more about them and cheering them on.
There's obvious Christian themes which was my main and probably only complaint for this book. I prefer subtle tones of light and hope but this is far from subtle. It's very Christian oriented and the message a bit too in the face for me. It's obvious and doesn't make this terribly thought-provoking.
It was still good and will appeal to others -- just not for me.
I would probably rate this book T H R E E stars.
