The Six Question Character Challenge

8:06 AM

Hola readers! Time for a fun post!
One of my besties, Naomi (check out her blow here !), tagged me for for the Six Question Character Challenge, and I thought I'd give it a go. I feel like I've talked about my one novel a lot that I'm in the works of editing, but I still enjoy the characters. So once again, "When Darkness Rises" is the topic of today's post.
Let's begin...

Meet Gavin, my main character who is a bit of a wimp turned heir to the throne.
  1. A contradiction within the character (the good kind that indicates depth) Gavin longs to do good, longs to keep peace, and longs to keep away from the sword. He loves nature, the simple things in life, and hates the idea of war which is beginning to ravage his country of Sindaleer. BUT he wants to see rebellion.
  2. The character’s Meyers-Briggs type ISFJ-T
  3. Favorite color Earthen colors
  4. How would they slay a dragon?  (Even if there aren’t dragons in your book) Oh I'm planning to later have dragons but I can imagine he would defeat the dragon and kill it with his Messenger Sword, even if he hated death because it would mean saving those he loved.
  5. What is their darkest secret? He has visions about the future-ones that tell of a coming darkness. Some of the dreams are already becoming true, but so far he is too scared to admit that to anyone but his closest friend Josef. The dreams scare him too much, and he pushes them far back in his mind, hoping to forget-which is hopeless.
  6. Where do they see themselves in ten years? A hermit in the woods, but him being a rightful heir says otherwise.

Black Wanderer, the man Gavin meets up with in some of the first few chapters. They don't really get along because of the Wanderer's sternness.
  1. A contradiction within the character (the good kind that indicates depth) Black Wanderer, like Gavin, wants to keep peace but his peace sometimes comes from the sword. He also loves Sindaleer, the foreign place he escaped to when terrible events changed his life forever. However, he also loves his home country, which brings conflict when both are ravaged by war.
  2. Favorite color Black when a guardian, blue when he was once a prince
  3. How would they slay a dragon?  (Even if there aren’t dragons in your book) He'd slay a dragon with his guardians, and I can imagine he'd plan a strategic battle plan since he use to do that before he fled his home country.
  4. What is their darkest secret? His brother's death is his fault
  5. Where do they see themselves in ten years? Dead. He can't imagine how he's going to survive the battle.
Josef, Gavin's best friend a soldier
  1. A contradiction within the character (the good kind that indicates depth) Family comes first yet he longs to leave and run off to help in Sindaleer's rebellion
  2. Favorite color None
  3. How would they slay a dragon?  (Even if there aren’t dragons in your book) I can imagine he'd face it with fire-fighting fire with fire.
  4. What is their darkest secret? He's leading a rebellion against the king
  5. Where do they see themselves in ten years? Pretty much everyone in Sindaleer seems themselves as dead in ten years because the future is so bleak

    Noll
    Nick
  1. Nick and Noll, brothers, guardians, best friends, and later friends of Gavin
    1. A contradiction within the character (the good kind that indicates depth) They love each other and their country, and they hold true to their beliefs, though at times they're trouble makers (especially the younger-Noll). They tend to assume too much too fast and act without thinking ahead.
    2. Where do they see themselves in ten years? Being two of the top guardians-perhaps guardian leaders.
    3. The character’s Meyers-Briggs type Nick is ESFP-A and I never did Noll for some reason
    4. Favorite color I can see them in oranges and reds, though as guardians they wear brown
    5. How would they slay a dragon?  (Even if there aren’t dragons in your book) They'd probably try all kinds of tricks haha.
    6. What is their darkest secret? They don't have too many secrets since they're open books, but they fear losing each other because though they never talk about it, their whole family died of a fever when they were young and they have no one. They try to forget that, to keep it in the past, and they don't want to show their fear.
So, do the challenge if you're up for it. Copy and past the questions and answer like I did. And be on the look-out for some more posts this week including a photo shoot, book review, and a sneak peak at the inspirational non fiction I'm currently writing!

    2. Yes, I do enjoy writing. I mostly stick to short stories and poems, but I'm going to be trying a novella for the first time shortly!

    3. Ohh exciting! Do you mind sharing the plot or is it something you don't want to tell anyone (I understand if so-sometimes it's fun keeping the story to yourself until you're ready to fully develop it)
