Selah and her companions know they must complete the Third Protocol before it's too late, and all clues continue to lead west...but what dangers will they face there? They realize that the other side of the mountain holds unknown perils such as storms, strange settlements and hot ash.
The clock continues to tick for Saleh however, and she knows that if she doesn't fulfill her mission soon then she's going to be lost completely and there's no going back.

I asked to get this book even though I hadn't read any prior. Yes, it is the third book I reasoned, BUT what's the big deal? I'll go online and learn all I can. Yeah right...Not good reasoning.
I was so terribly confused as soon as it began, though I could pick up bits and pieces from what info I found on goodreads. The writing style isn't in first person as a lot of futuristic books tend to be (Hunger Games, Divergent, etc), and I didn't mind it except the chapters sometimes ended with no explanation directly in the next. For instance, I'd eagerly read on since I wanted to see what happened to Selah when such and such happened to her but the next chapter would be her out of the danger and a page later I'd learn from dialogue what was going on. That really bugged me and would have even if I'd read the first two installments.
The characters and plot are very unique, I'll give Ms. Calhoun that. It has a more Divergent feel with the different settlements and tech, and the Hunger Games with the fleeing and violence. The tech is definitely high: Think Selah being swept away with a single push of the button from one room to the next.
I loved the tech when I read Divergent (sorry for continually giving that book as an example but they're kinda similar), and I found I prefer tech that isn't over my head and more to what we see now with a hint of futuristic. There is a lot of different things that confused me here, from the odd weapons, vehicles, transportation to the globe thingy (I forgot the name for it but it's on the front cover). It just wasn't my style.
In the end the book may have been better if I'd read the ones prior, I grant that. Still I found the characters choppy and unable to progress, and the fight scenes weren't well enough written for me to be enthralled and it lacked inspiration, so as the fact that it's labeled "Christian" felt pointless.

I received this book free from Revell

Have you ever read any of the books in the series? What did you think?
