The Secret Life of Sarah Hallenbeck |A Rom Com Book Review|

Hola readers!

Sarah Hollenbeck had the good life as an author writing romantic fiction that would make a church-going elderly lady blush. She'd found her talent and she enjoyed doing what she did best - writing books that shot up in sells.
But then the worst thing that could possibly happen to someone with a career such as her's - happens.
She became a Christian, fell for a pastor and she's under contract to write another romance book. Becoming a Christian was so easy, but it's going to be a whole lot harder to live it out.

I was excited to try out this novel by Bethany Turner because the plot was so unique and deals with messy topics and equally messy people. Sarah's no stranger to the secular world and Bethany Turtner doesn't shy away from talking about sex (in proper terms) in this 320 page novel. I liked that from the very first chapters as well as the witty humor opening up from page one. Mentioning I Love Lucy had me won over, as well as the other jokes cleverly stuck in about popular movies and books. I laughed aloud at the cheesiness and really this book is, yes, VERY cheesy.
There's no doubt about that.
For those not fans of cheesy rom coms that are predictable, then you probably won't like this one quite as much. Personally I think that is because the book is slightly shorter then most romantic novels, so the plot, such as Sarah becoming a Christian, felt too rushed for me. Despite that though, I LOVE that the character falls for a pastor. My dad being a pastor and not too many books or movies depicting a pastor as more then a preachy, dull, made The Secret Life more interesting to me.
However, again, some aspects felt rushed - as did the romance - which turned me off and I wasn't a fan of all the cheese, but overall this is a fun and unique Christian book that's like no other. It's by-far not your typical Christian romance! If me saying that interests you, then I highly encourage you to check it out. It's Hallmark movies with a realistic twist about the real world!

Revell sent me this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you.

  1. This sounds like a book I would have mixed feelings about! ^_^

But it is cool that they have a pastor as a love interest, pastors are always put down in books it seems or described as senior pastors.
