The cover of this book was the cutest and I couldn't wait to get my hands on this romance book. Nothing like a cute contemporary for your day. I've only read a few Robin Lee Latcher books and Jessica and Ridley's love story sounded like a cute one. The historical side of the book is very realistic and the love story is indeed compelling. HOWEVER, I'm a HUGE HUGE Denise Hunter fan and I feel this book from Robin Lee Hatcher was bland and the character growth struggling unlike some of my other favorite authors. I had a hard time getting into the novel as it went on, and Jessica just didn't grow like I wanted her too.
I honestly just got bored.
I've seen really good reviews about this book so I wonder if it's just me? Maybe I expected too much? The book was just too bland for me. I love characters I can relate to and to laugh as well as cry. For someone (not me!) looking for a simple read for some winter reading or fans of feel-good fiction, this one is for you.
It just wasn't for me sadly -- I really wanted to like the book.
Oh well...
