the best advice I've ever received

Hola readers!

One time someone gave me some of the best advice I've ever received. "Every day I try to be a better man than I was the day before. Every day I know I fail but I just try again the next day to do better than the day before."

It's simple.
But to me it's profound.

What if everyday we strove to be better humans than we were the day before? What if each day was seen as a lesson...as a second chance...to be better humans than we were the day before? What if at the end of each day we put our mistakes at the foot of the cross and said, "I'm going to try again."
What if we didn't give up?
What if each day we strove again and again?
What could happen?

Personally, I've chosen to take that advice. In a way at the beginning of the year, I turned it into my New Year's resolution because there's no condemnation in this resolution. It's not just something I want to live out in 2019 but for the rest of my life.
We know we're going to fail, that we're fallible humans. I think it's safe to assume we're going to fall and trip-up and make mistakes. I think it's safe to say that sometime during the day we're going to fail.
But if we serve of a God of Grace and second chances, if we choose to trust in the Savior who made second chances possible...
then we can choose each day to be better humans than we were the day before.
We can get up each morning and the mistakes of yesterday are in the past.
We don't have to live in what was but in what is possible.
We don't have to allow the past to rule our thoughts. We don't have to let mistakes rule our lives.
We have the power to let it all go and say that we will be better than we were the day before.
We can start fresh each day because there is a God who knows no limits, who loves us despite the past, the present, and the future.

So there you have it.
The best advice I've ever received
Go.
Live it.
Do not let the day before hold you back from becoming the person you can become today, reader.
You have that power.
Do not abuse it.

  2. I love this. Thank you for sharing. I go to bed and wake up in the morning like I have waken from a comma, reborn, having to remember all what was learned, who I am, and who I want to be. All of who I was is remembered when I awake and all I want to be will remain remembered as before the sleep or forgotten and reborn.

  5. Everyone knows guys can be jerks. It's sad but true that girls(women) can be jerks as well. I'd be ashamed to tell you how old I was when I first realized that fact.

I remember way back visiting a friend's farm. He had all sorts of livestock and in particular one little pig. It was oddly redder than all the others. But its color was the least of it. When you approached the thing it would squeal horribly and run in tight circles until it voided itself. You learned very quickly to keep your distance. And to stay upwind of it! I don't know what, but something reminded me this weekend of the little red pig.
