Hola readers!
What do you do when you have a lot of books to review?
You put them all in one post...
Chase The Lion Weekly Planner |
I officially am trying bullet journaling and I am jazzed! My mom has been trying to get me to schedule my chaotic life together a bit instead of flying by the seat of my pants (story of my life). So when Mark Batterson's Chase The Lion (weekly planner) popped up I was dying of excitement.
This planner is just beautiful. I don't have to terribly artistic for this bullet journal, and the daily prompts to chase my lions (aka my dreams) and accomplish my goals (no matter how small) is motivating.
The journal itself lasts about a year and I've barely begun, but I'm already in love with chasing my lions and conquering them. There have been so many obstacles for me mentally and physically and looking at them through the eyes of a warrior is inspiring for my 2019-2020.
I'm just in love with this little book -- I am finally getting stuff done and remembering what I actually need to get done each day.
Breaking Anxiety's Grip Dr. Michelle Bengtson |
I have been struggling with deep fear and anxiety these last couple of months and it was really refreshing to get this book in the mail (hello Baker Books for their blogger review program!). I needed this book in my life honestly.
Practical, straight forward and honest and sometimes a wake up call.
| Peace is not a person; peace is a Thing |
The author basically walks with me as a reader, letting me know I are not alone, and openly sharing not only the struggles of her patients and people in her life...but her own story. My only one complaint was that she never mentioned getting counseling help and that there is no shame in medication. I know that wasn't the focus of the book but in the church there sometimes is a lot of shame put in getting outside help. I think hearing that -- especially from a doctor herself -- is very needed.
Other than that I needed this book in my life (and the playlist ideas were an added bonus -- guess who immediately headed to her spotify to make one ;).
Thank you Baker for this book in exchange for an honest review!

I was excited to get another Mark Batterson book in the mail and the idea of Double Blessing seemed like a good one: What does it mean to accept God's blessing? How do we extend that blessing to others in our lives?
In a culture of #blessed what does it truly mean to live like we are blessed?
Mark Batterson always encourages me to think...and he always brings up topics in a new. way. But *cough* *cough* I honestly didn't enjoy this book as much as I thought I would. He didn't really address the topic of blessings any differently from other books I've read. For many Double Blessing will be more of a review than of honestly learning something new. I feel bad for saying that but I'm just honest.
This wasn't Mark Batterson's best books...and I honestly love his writing.
FINALLY A DECENTLY GOOD BOOK!!!!!!!

My only issue in this Christian fiction book is that it's slightly predictable. Bad guy becomes good (a little too fast in my opinion), good guys win over, and the end is bittersweet. Still though a read worth my time. I just wish Jesse wasn't your typical turnaround character and been won over so fast.
Also the romance happened SUPER DUPER quick and seemed based mainly on physical attraction (let's kiss in no time y'all).
Grant it, I still enjoyed this read. It was a change of pace and really made me stop and think about what could possibly happen in the future with our government and to religious freedom if we allow it.
But basically this book was super fun to get because Blind Book tours hosted it -- which meant I got a surprise book in the mail customized from my Goodreads likes in exchange for a review.
That in of itself made reading the book hands down fun.
So there is my reading run-down.
Do you have any bullet journaling tips for a human in a crazy life?

Wow looks like a cool bullet journal! I have not tried to bullet journal. I end up planning on my calendar or make a calender or a specific project.
